As many of you have already figured out, there is a lot of information on the internet about Airsoft. Just go to your favorite search engine and type in “Airsoft” and just look at how many hits you get. Once you start looking through the flood of information, the next thing you need to figure out is which link has the information that you are looking for.
Like most of you, when I first started playing Airsoft, I was on an “information high” or better yet, I was an “information junky”, I just couldn’t get enough! I wanted to know everything about Airsoft. The good thing for me is that I have been in the military for 20 years and all I really needed to know, was information on the weapons and gear specific to Airsoft. Now the new player on the other hand, that has no experience except maybe for paintball, has just been shown a mountain of information. Where do you begin?
I have surfed many forums and there are always the same questions. What is the best AEG? Who makes the best AEG? Where is a local group that plays? Where do I even buy the gear? Is there a store close or am I going to have to purchase everything on-line? Which is better, paintball or Airsoft? If you were to ask those questions to 5 different people, 4 of the 5 would probably have different answers. If you have spent any amount of time on any forum you know this is true.
I want to create a “guide” in the hopes that it will help the new player and shed some light on Airsoft and true Mil-Sim. My hope is this guide will become similar to a military SOP (standard operating procedure). On one respect; it will be a “living” document. What does that mean? It simply means that if there needs to be changes or updates made to it, someone will make the changes. I want this guide to grow with the sport.
There are many great websites and forums on the internet. The main problem is that it’s all scattered all over the internet or buried deep in forums and very difficult for new players to find the information they are looking for. I strongly believe in the K.I.S.S. principle; Keep It Silly Simple!
I want this guide to be created for the new player by players. I want it to be general understanding of the sport, something to “cut his / her teeth” on. This guide should contain things every new player should know and think about. The guide should also help the beginner with which gear he or she should buy. This guide isn't supposed to be the ultimate "Airsoft Encyclopedia"; its only purpose is to help the beginner. My hope is that after the beginner has read this guide and have used it, he / she (or even parents) will become more confident on the playing field. And, there experience will be more enjoyable.
So, what exactly am I asking? I would like to get a group of Airsoft Players together and work on different areas and then compile it all together into one publication. I already have a very good start but I just don’t have the time to dedicate to it, especially to edit it. I want this to be Airsoft players for Airsoft Players, free of charge.
This publication should reflect the general thoughts and current information for Airsoft Players.
This will help keep the novice, retailers and promoters current on an “Airsoft SOP”, and your feedback will aid in future changes and keeping the development of this aid current. This Airsoft Guide has the potential to even assist you in improving and maintaining your “Airsoft Readiness”. Use it to supplement and enhance your training program as you prepare for Airsoft Combat.
